Once on a Slow Afternoon
Malapascua’s pace of life is slow. What is a family to on a lazy afternoon but to pick lice from each other’s head.
Innocent Paint Job
It’s interesting to watch children play. This boy in a shirt a few sizes bigger than his frame plays with a used paint roller as his brother sorts anchovies.
There are looks of surprise and wonder in the eyes of these boys as they hear my camera cycling. They went on with their business after they realized I was harmless.
Cleaning The Catch
As the fishing boat docked, fishermen’s children rush into their fathers’ boat. On the beach they wash some of the catch by digging a shallow hole in the sand where they wash the anchovies after filling it with sea water. Now we know what dinner’s going to be.
Odd Vegetation
I’m back in Malapascua. It has been four days since I drove to the city and I am so happy to be back at the resort with wifi already available. I have posted my previous entries during my visits to the city but now I can finally post pictures fresh from my shoots.
Above is an unusual plant growing in Purple Snapper Dive Resort’s front garden. With an extension tube attached to my 35mm lens I was able to magnify this leaf of the plant which for some reason looks like it’s growing a flower on itself. I maybe wrong, it maybe a new sprout of leaves but this theory is debatable too as the growth looks like a flower.
Anyway, for photographers who do not have the budget to get a macro lens, extension tubes are the next best thing. One caveat though, extension tubes makes focusing a little harder as it tends to have a very shallow depth of field.
Transportation Contrast
This was taken yesterday as I looked out the window after my morning shower. Don’t worry, I was clothed when I took a peek. It was interesting to see the same mode of transportation, in such contrasting classes, crossing the Hilutungan Channel.
I tried googling those islands in the back ground but google map has not tagged them. I believe they are part of the province of Bohol. Come to think of it, I have lived here for years and I still do not know the names of the islands that greet me in the morning. There’s got to be something wrong with me. LOL! In case you’re wondering, this is taken from our condo in Punta Engaño in Lapu-lapu City.
I’ll be driving back to the island tomorrow. I’m dreading the drive but I am looking forward to be back in paradise.
While In The City
Marcelo Fernan Bridge, linking Mactan Island to mainland Cebu. If you flew in to Cebu to get to Malapascua, there’s a ginormous chance you passed this bridge.
I’m not in my usual programing as I have been tasked to market Purple Snapper Dive Resort in Cebu. Regular programing will resume on Tuesday, when I get back to Malapascua.
This picture was taken a couple of months ago, while having dinner at Anton’s in Lapu-lapu City. Actually, these are pictures. 3 exposures stitched together in post processing. I have been itching to capture this brinde for years, the wait was worth it. And dinner was great too.
Cornered Illumination
The last shot of the series after exploring the subject during the last 30 minutes of daylight.
You maybe wondering about the title of this entry. Logon beach lies on the south east corner of the island. Beyond the protruding rock edge is a rocky beach, and further ahead is bounty beach. The illumination part it self explanatory. LOL! If I did not make sense, please sent me an email before I embarrass myself further. ;P
An Orgy of Colors
The last hint of light reveals the beauty of the world before the night sky envelops it with darkness.
Malapascua Twilight
The passing of a day
as the parting of lovers
is sad and beautiful.
Its beauty,
emotion evoking
and sadly eventually forgotten.
It was one of those days when a photographer wakes up and decides he is going to shoot something beautiful. I looked forward to the end yesterday to make up for the fiasco that was the other day; when while my lenses and filters were making love, an almost unnecessary phone call resulted to an equivalent of premature climax. But that was the other day, yesterday was similar to the best second serving. It was not perfect, but it was…hmmm…well…it made me crave for a cigarette. LOL!
Nuff double entendres. This shot was taken from Logon Beach, actually the rocky left side of logon beach (Note to self: Take note of the name of the resorts that you trespass). I’ve been looking for a place that would give me the best foreground for a sunset shot. I noticed this little cove of beach from my last boat trip back to Maya which I thought would be the best place to watch the sunset. I asked one of the Purple Snapper Dive Resorts’ bar maids about this little beach between the village and Blue Corals. Being the nice lady that she is she told me what its called and how to get there. After not following her instructions I got to this resort being fronted by this rock formation being licked by the sea: perfect for filtered long exposure shots. I may have missed my destination by a tad much as I could still see the beach from this place, but it turned out to be a right mistake.
Anyway, the island that you see on the upper right hand side is Dakit-dakit. I believe it is a dive and snorkeling sight (Another note to self: check out the island from under the surface). The farther island to its right is Chocolate island. If someone tells you you are going to Coral Garden, it also means you will be in the waters of Chocolate island.
I have taken the picture. Now go ahead and check it out. If you want me to show you the way to this place personally, just holler at me. How will you find me? Ask that nice lady in Purple Snapper Bar & Restaurant.
Another color burst tomorrow. In the mean time,
Live, love and dive.
