Pricked & Pickled
A local boy checking his foot after skinny dipping in the sparkling Malapascua sea. Although beautiful. One must be careful in venturing in the seas as it is littered with sea urchins. To be safe, swimmers must wear goggles to be able to avoid these thorn bombs. They are better looked at than stepped on.
Pus’it Pus’it Some Squid
A few weeks ago at Bounty Beach, I stumbled upon a fake bait in one of the boats baking broiling under the Malapascua sun. Unfortunately I did not have my camera then, and I did not take note of the color of the boat it was in. I told myself I will have to get a picture of that bait sometime in the near future even if I have to look at all the boats in Bounty Beach. In the following photo walks that I made on the beach, I did not see that fake bait. I was thinking, perhaps the fisherman has changed his routine and decided not to leave his bait in his boat, or has moved to the other side of the island. I spotted the bait last week but like the first time I did not have my camera. I allotted a space in my memory bank for the boat containing the bait. White faded blue and green. Not a very big one. On my last walk I spotted the boat right away, above is one of the resulting snaps.
I did not know what it was used for. My guess was it is used to catch big fishes, like the tuna that they sell on the island everyday. I asked one of out staff at the resort and she told me it’s used to catch “Nukos”: Squid. I could not be more wrong. LOL!

A Reminder of Home
Being in a tropical country for the holidays, these young tourist brought a little piece of Christmas.

Ahh…Merry Christmas!
It’s my first Christmas in Malapascua. I’m certain there are more to look forward to.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!…and major major world peace.
Gotcha!
It’s interesting how kids act when there someone carrying a big camera. On a full boat on my way back to the island after last weeks supply run to Bogo City, this boy was putting on a show. I imagine he was trying to get my attention. I pretended not to care but at the corner of my eyes I was watching him while checking the exposure reading. Once he got tired of dancing and carrying on he sat next to me. He probably figured I’m not interested. I waited some more and when he placed his hand in his mouth I finally lifted my camera and took a few frames. He probably feel tricked. But the raised eyebrow and the look of surprise despite being hidden by those oversized sunglasses is priceless.
